Shopping, but good for the planet

Did you know that a large amount of fashion companies doesn’t pay their workers a living wage? Clothes are being sold for as much as €180 while workers who made the garments in Bangladesh as earning less than €2 per day (Clean Clothes Campaign, 2020).

Did you also know that three out of five fast fashion items end up in a landfill? The fashion industry is responsible for 8% of carbon emissions, which is more than international aviation and shipping combined (Good on you, 2020). The HTH Sustainability Committee believes that there should be more opportunities for consumers to buy ethical fashion at affordable prices to contribute to a sustainable world.

This is why Hotelschool the Hague’s Sustainability Committee is hosting a closet sale on May 11th from 12 till 4! The closet sale will take place in the breakfast area of Skotel for students of all phases.

Students can donate their old clothes in Skotel, and members of the HTHSustainabilityCommittee will sell these clothes to other students for small prices.

A variety of secondhand clothes in good condition have already been donated by members of the Sustainability Committee. However, donations are still being accepted. There will be a clothes donation box in the lobby of Skotel where you can donate any clothes you have that are in need of a new home.

Clothes will be sold for very affordable prices to students and the money collected from the sale will be used for the Plastic Soup Foundation Charity and for the Sustainability Committee funds to help make Hotelschool a more sustainable place.

We hope to see you there!

More information on the event will be available at the Sustainability Committees Instagram @hthsustainabilitycommittee

Warmest regards,
